The Mount Elliot section of Bowling Green Bay National Park is located approximately 25 km south of Townsville. It encompasses the upper Alligator Creek catchment, Mount Elliot’s forested slopes, and part of the Ramsar-listed Bowling Green Bay wetland system. Gazetted in 1977, the park features dry woodland, rainforest, and granite formations shaped over millennia.
Mount Elliot itself rises to 1,218 m and forms a distinct ecological zone supporting varied wildlife and significant flora. The area holds cultural significance for the Bindal and Yirandhali peoples, with documented Indigenous history and traditional knowledge tied to the region.
